Vienna, 7 January 2026 – fragmentiX Storage Solutions GmbH is advancing the development of a highly secure, fully Austrian-controlled AI infrastructure with the LEND AI DataCentre (LENDAIDC). The high-security data centre is being built in Lend (Salzburg) and consistently relies on 100 percent renewable energy from regional hydropower, state-of-the-art AI hardware, and a quantum-safe security architecture. The goal is to provide a data-sovereign and production-ready AI infrastructure that is urgently needed for Austria as an industrial location.

LENDAIDC is being developed and operated by fragmentiX together with strong partners and in close cooperation with the Austrian research landscape. A central role is played by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, which advises and supports the project in particular in the areas of cybersecurity, quantum security of data, and technical and scientific issues. The cooperation builds on many years of collaboration between fragmentiX and AIT, including national KIRAS security research projects as well as European research initiatives. An Austrian data centre solution based on data sovereignty and the highest level of cybersecurity is an important contribution to achieving European digital sovereignty.

Complementary to the Austrian AI and research landscape

LENDAIDC complements AI-FACTORY Austria as a complementary AI infrastructure. LENDAIDC provides a highly secure, data-sovereign, and production-ready environment for the subsequent operation of sensitive AI applications. Successful proof-of-concepts from AI-FACTORY Austria can, in a next step, be migrated directly to the LENDAIDC infrastructure, further trained there, and transferred into productive operating environments.

This creates a powerful alternative for Austrian and European organisations to non-European hyperscalers – with full control over data, systems, and access rights. LENDAIDC thus makes a significant contribution to digital sovereignty and the technological competitiveness of Austria as an industrial location.

Sustainability and the Alpine location advantage

The location in the Alps offers ideal conditions for this: In addition to climate-neutral energy supply from hydropower, natural cooling water is also available. This enables energy-efficient, independent operation and combines ecological responsibility with digital sovereignty and infrastructural resilience.

Perspective for the public sector and critical applications

LENDAIDC is designed to also support security-critical and regulatory demanding use cases in the future – for example for public institutions, research organisations, or operators of critical infrastructure. fragmentiX is in ongoing exchange with relevant stakeholders from administration, research, and industry in this regard.

With LENDAIDC, fragmentiX brings its many years of experience in building highly secure and quantum-safe systems for the first time into the operation of an independent, sovereign AI infrastructure. The project bundles technological expertise, visible security-critical know-how, and operational experience from numerous national and European initiatives in a container-based, modularly scalable data centre model.

LENDAIDC is therefore far more than another infrastructure location: It is a strategic building block for the secure transition of AI research into the productive operation of sensitive applications – with fragmentiX as idea initiator and founder and with the clear ambition to think security, sustainability, and European control together from the very beginning.
