Bernhard Zatloukal participated in Europe Biobank Week 2025, held in Bologna, Italy, from May 14th to 16th. Hosted by the European Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI), the congress brought together over 800 biobankers, researchers, industry specialists, and decision-makers from 47 countries to discuss the latest advancements in biobank research and industry developments.

Data security was a significant topic at this year’s event, featuring a dedicated session on “Ensuring Data Security in Biobanks.” Davide Fragnito from the Institute for Endocrinology and Oncology CNR-IEOS, Naples, presented how fragmentiX systems facilitate genomic data transfer using a secret-sharing-based storage network within the BBMRI.it infrastructure.
Bernhard’s presentation, “Quantum-Proofing Your Data: The Future of Cybersecurity for Biobanks and Scientific Data,” was recognized with a Best Oral Presentation Award!
