A better configuration interface provides more flexibility while presenting information in a simpler way to the administrator. This contributes to our continued security focus with the new update. To keep your data safe and protect your souvereignity we add OVH as new EU-27 storage LOCATION.
Highlights of frXOS-2.12.0
Improved configuration interface
While the last frXOS update focussed on strengthening the security of the system, especially the newly developed configuration interface, we were able to improve the clarity and flexibility of the configuration interface.
We’ve refactored two major modules of the system configuration,
- the network interface configuration
- and the firewall settings.
Network configuration
The network configuration is a core part of the configuration and integration of the Secret Sharing Appliance into the IT infrastructure. This update adds a visualization of the network interfaces of the fragmentiX Appliance, which makes it easy to locate the correct hardware port.
Further it is now possible to rename and assign each interface separately, depending on its purpose (e.g., serving the network drives or connecting to storage LOCATIONs). This allows the administrator more flexibility and provides more opportunities for separation of network traffic, which in turn increases the security of your data.

Firewall
With these changes to the network interface configuration, the next logical step was to provide the administrator with the same flexibility regarding firewall rules. Previously it was only possible to open specific ports on the pre-defined network interfaces.
This updates provides an overview of all active firewall rules, including automatically generated ones. These rules are created by the other configuration options (e.g., DNS servers) to keep the system operational and not blocking necessary connections from/to the fragmentiX Appliance. They can be en-/disabled for testing/debugging purposes. Modification of those automatic rules is limited, but the administrator is free to create new rules to fit their environment and configuration.
The changes increase transparency and simplify the administrator’s work, reducing errors and enhancing security.

Security updates
In the past weeks and months, security vulnerabilities discovered by new large language models (LLMs) made headlines even in mainstream media. While Anthropic held back its Mythos model and then partially released it just to be forced to cut off non-American users by the US Government, OpenAI’s new GPT versions as well as open weight/open source LLMs became just as capable.
Long story short, hundreds of new vulnerabilities were discovered and patched in every possible system, component, program, and piece of software. While many of those do not impact fragmentiX Appliances, we analyzed and patched many others.
In addition to those patches and routing system updates, this release introduces explicit audit logging for the configuration interface and improves authentication and session handling of our WebDAV interface.
Storage Provider Approved: OHV
With OVH we tested and approved a new EU27 based S3 storage provider for our LOCATION selection. This further strengthens your options to store your data in reliable data centers, while providing more flexibility with your Secret Sharing settings.
